What inspired david to make a career change?

After my first business was acquired, I took some time to weigh starting another online business, seeking employment in online media, and purchasing an existing business. Having been an owner for most of my career, I couldn't imagine going back to work for someone else. I also decided I wanted my next business to have closer ties to my community (as opposed to the anonymity of an online business).

While investigating a local business for sale, I learned that the owners had contracted with a national franchisor to convert the business to a franchise location upon sale. So I decided to also look at new franchise opportunities. Ultimately, I choose FYZICAL because it's a brand that makes a positive impact on patients’ lives as they recover from injuries or get therapy to improve their balance and reduce fall risks.

Why will david make a great franchise owner?

I think my unique ability is vision - the ability to see all the angles of a particular problem or opportunity. I also have experience in management and marketing. When combined with the processes created by the franchisor, I think this will be a winning combination.

What were david’s search criteria for finding the right franchise company?

I wanted to find an opportunity that will make a positive impact in people's lives, has the ability to thrive in varying economic conditions, and fits well in the rural, older demographic of my home state of Maine.

Any tips on choosing the right time to take the leap into business ownership and leave the corporate world?

Although I was already a business owner prior to becoming a franchisee, I took this leap many years ago when I left my corporate job to pursue my business full-time. My only regret is not doing it sooner. There will never be a perfect time, and it's always going to be scary. Having adequate savings and a backup plan is important -- I wouldn't do it without those -- but otherwise, you can fall into the trap of delaying things indefinitely waiting for a sign that might never come.

In his words, here's what David had to say about working with Liz:

“Liz was great. Her wealth of experience not only as a franchise consultant but as a business owner herself gave me the confidence I needed to make the leap. Her ability to interview me and "match" me with prospective franchises was valuable. Coincidentally (or maybe not), I ended up going with the brand she thought was the best fit for me. After doing careful due diligence on several other brands she presented to me, I agreed.”
